About Panama Canal anchorages
Ships waiting to transit the Panama Canal anchor off Balboa on the Pacific side and off Colón on the Atlantic side. A wait at anchor is a common time to take on stores, delivered by launch.
Who orders beef at the canal anchorages
Container, bulk and ro-ro ships usually provision for the next ocean passage. We quote in kg with IMPA codes so the order matches the master's requisition. Tankers and gas carriers on long voyages favor large frozen orders, and crew nationality decides how much halal beef goes on the order. Ship chandlers at the canal anchorages can buy from us by the case or pallet for their own vessel orders.
How delivery works
The Panama Canal recorded 13,404 transits in fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025), and many of those ships take on stores while they wait to transit. Ships at the Pacific and Atlantic anchorages can take frozen beef by launch before they transit. Terminals at Balboa, Rodman, Cristóbal, Manzanillo and Colón take delivery at the berth through our local partner chandlers.
For the canal anchorages, we ship in reefer containers ahead of the vessel's call. Our partner chandler delivers to the berth, or by launch to ships at anchor, with the temperature record for the whole trip.
